Deer Hunting in Warren

I went to Warren this past weekend to our deer camp for opening weekend of gun season. I usually go once or twice a year, depending on whether or not I get a good one the first weekend. The part of our land we usually hunt on has been flooded for a few weeks due to the enormous amount of rain in Arkansas, so we couldn't get to our regular stands. So I hunted out of my Uncle Scott's box stand and Dad hunted out of his climber in a spot Uncle Scott and Jackie found for him. It was just Dad and I who went this time from our family, but there were about 12 other people at the camp last weekend. I am pretty much always the only girl there besides Mrs. Cindy, who lives in Warren, but she doesn't actually stay at camp.

The first morning was pretty good. I saw three does early and then barley saw another one moving through the woods, but that was all I saw and that was before 8:00. So the rest of the morning was fairly boring. We went in for lunch and to watch a little football and then went back out around 3:00. I only saw two does and a spike that hunt, so not all that great either. I killed an 8-point last year, so a doe is just not quite as exciting to kill anymore. Luckily, I always bring a book to read when I get bored. I have been reading the House of Night series by P.C. and Kristin Cast. It is a vampire series, and it is pretty good once you get into it. I just finished book 5 and have to wait until May for the last one to come out.

Anyways...three people ended up with deer this weekend. Mrs. Cindy killed two 6-points, Bubba killed a 10-point, and JG killed an 8-point. Jackie gave Mrs. Cindy 4 shells and she used all 4 of them on her two deer. She put two in each deer just to be sure they weren't going anywhere til she got someone to come get her. Some of the guys were staying up there the whole week so I'm sure there will be more this week, but I had to come back home for work Monday and I went to listen to Ryan's band Thrill of a Dogfight play Sunday night in Conway at Sound Stage. They were really good. I was so proud of them. They practice all the time at our house, but this is the first time I have really heard them play and I will definitely go to more of their shows. Sorry I don't have any pictures from hunting, but I do have a couple from Ryan's show, so I'll try to post those later on whenever I get a new camera charger cord...and you can listen to their song on their myspace page. I think its www.myspace.com/thrillofadogfight.
